Welcome to Gabriel City
Gabriel City is a community for the tens of millions of Americans directly affected by our criminal justice system. We come together to share our stories and help to shape new ones. Inmates and the formerly incarcerated, family members of those serving time, men and women under community supervision, professionals in criminal justice and corrections, and the victims of crime; we support and respect each other as we work to break the endless cycle of crime and incarceration that afflicts our nation.
-
In Gabriel City, we are committed to becoming the authors of our own lives, not the victims of a common narrative. As each citizen shares their stories, offers comment and feedback and provides wisdom and knowledge to help the community grow, we learn to heal ourselves and others. Inspired by principles of respect and dignity, we not only dream of a better future, we are committed to its telling.
-
Whether they’re artistic endeavors, political statements, or simple musings about your life and dreams, use videos to share your stories at Gabriel City. We are all teachers and storytellers and we’ll launch a learning center to teach you new tools to share and craft your own stories.
-
We are not only a community of voices and ideas, but also of faces, emotions, and souls that can be experienced in images. Sometimes a single image is more powerful than a thousand words. At Gabriel City you can build a photography exhibit that reflects your story.

Does music have the power to release your pain, express your joy, or unlock your heart? Can you make music that will give others hope? Leadbelly actually used a song to convince the Governor to sign his pardon! Share your music with Gabriel City and let us know what music inspires you.

-
Share your comments, thoughts, opinions, ideas, solutions, frustrations, hopes and joys. Become a writer not a victim, a thinker not a machine, and teach others what you have learned.
-
So much information is out there for our consumption, but much of it is hard to find and organize. At Gabriel City we’ll link to articles and news aggregated from all over the world about the most important criminal justice issues of the day. In today’s world, with so much information at our fingertips, we can all be journalists. Send us the news you think is important to share.

Women are the fastest growing segment of the burgeoning jail and prison population in the United States. Few incarcerated women have committed violent offenses; their primary pathway to incarceration is substance abuse. Poverty, trauma, mental heath issues and addiction are interrelated problems in their lives.

One person’s story can change another’s life. Share the books that have made a difference in your life, either by inspiring you or shaping your understanding of the issues. Send us information about your own writing, too! Together, one by one, we can begin to change our world.
