Gabriel City is a community for the tens of millions of Americans directly affected by our criminal justice system. We come together to share our stories and help to shape new ones. Inmates and the formerly incarcerated, family members of those serving time, men and women under community supervision, professionals in criminal justice and corrections, and the victims of crime; we support and respect each other as we work to break the endless cycle of crime and incarceration that afflicts our nation.

It is indeed so true that there are so many people walking around that are living behind their own private bars. On the other hand there are also a number of people who can say they are looking to the bars called: conscience. If there are people who knows that things didn’t went the way they claim it has happened then I can imagine that they have problems with these bars. Did the very same people ever realize that the innocent people behind bars have to look through a double row of bars?

A lot of people had the belief after seeing the documentaries, that the system didn’t worked in a fair way. It was not a question of being innocent or guilty but all about the treatment Vincent had which was a great disgrace. Because there are a lot of corrupt people working in the system it is not that difficult for the police and D.A. to get rid of a person towards they have dislikes. The parole board members said after seeing the unconstitutional line-up photo and the other documents Vincent was finally was able to obtain: “Well after 20 years I could also come up with something”. Doesn’t this count for all the explanations in the book what was written even after more than 20 years? Probably not because in Marksville things seems to go only one direction.

The same goes for Vincent, the hearing was very emotional for him. Will he finally get the justice he is asking for so many years? Will there finally be someone who is serious listening to his side? Will there finally be one who wants to have a serious look at the papers he was able to achieve after all these years? Papers which the D.A. kept secretly in his desk for all these years and kept away from the trial because it didn’t suit him? Vincent had faith in the system, at least the people who worked in the system. He believed that when a person was innocent the truth will be exposed and the police will haunt the real perpetrator. But unfortunately for Vincent the system doesn’t work that way for him and there seems to be people who help the system a bit by putting things at their hand. Did all the people involved in this case ask themselves why a person is able to keep up that struggle to find justice for that many years? That is only possible when the person is innocent and still have a belief in the honesty and fairness of certain people, people who like to believe they are true Christians. But all these people must not think they can buy off their conscience by doing good things in life. One day they have to account before the God in which they believe.

Instead of being angry it would be much better to ask the question why others are believing that Vincent is innocent? Or why the feeling of defending yourself is coming up? That is probably because this case is very misty and didn’t went in a fair way at all. It is not strange that people are going to ask questions. If everything was crystal clear there was never a need for others to ask questions. The several people who plaid a huge role in getting this case that misty can be blamed for that. If all the people involved were from the very beginning sincere, as the law requires, then there would have been one single question at all. Unfortunately for you that is not the case and it will always haunt you.

It is not so strange that you see on every other channel on T.V. “Life behind bars”. Obviously it seems necessary to expose these brutalities taken place in prison otherwise they can continue with their abusing of inmates.
Saying that there is for every prisoner a victim doesn’t show much of reality sense. There are innocent people in prison and they don’t have a victim outside, they are the VICTIM of people who put them there by means of several methods.
See for instance what happened in Chicago where a decorated former police chief tortured suspects. They were shocked, suffocated and beaten in the 1970s and 1980s to get a confession from them. Now all of that is exposed he even commit perjury and obstruction of justice. Things like this is not only happening in Chicago.
Victims can be heard loud and clear by means of the people who work in the judicial system, a system what has to execute laws and amendments but unfortunately use their own routes to prevent an suspect from getting justice.

Many times prison and residential treatment centers pause bad behavior but have a hard time making a lasting difference. It's difficult to make lasting change when some of the kids in these centers are hell bent on self destruction. Is there a successful prison that really rehabilitates kids or adults?

HIV is a disease that is still incurable today. We should always practice safe sex and also educate our people how to avoid the spread of this disease.

Similar prison books I think are pretty good are: A question of Freedom,/ Inside: Life behind bars(M. Santos), /and Fish: Boy in a mans prison.
