Mike Huckabee’s Clemency Burden

As Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee, now a Fox News reporter and potential contender for the 2012 Republican ticket, granted clemency to numerous convicted criminals in Arkansas, including Maurice Clemmons, the man responsible for the murder of four Seattle police officers. Though Huckabee gave little explanation for individual pardons, he strongly believed in religious redemption for criminals, and also expressed concerns about the fairness of the Arkansas criminal justice system.

Now, Huckabee is caught up in a fierce debate about clemency, parole, and the state of our criminal justice system.
