This Wall Street Journal article, written by Julie Jargon, explores recent controversy that has struck up in the West Side of Chicago because a local hot dog stand owner, James Andrews, hires ex-convicts as employees.  The controversy is centered around the name of the stand – “Felony Franks” – as well as the titles of the orders, and the catch lines that are used by the servers.  Some people in Chicago believe that the stand is exploiting the employees rather than helping them fit back into the norms of society.  Others view the stand as a positive way to keep former inmates off the streets and provide for their families.

Chicago Sets Out a Plan for At-Risk Students

Chicago public schools are taking a serious look at reducing violence among high school students. The plan is being funded by federal stimulus money and will promote targeted support programs for the city’s students at highest risk to fall victim to violent crime.
