Gang Violence in California Prison Leaves Some Injured

A total of 193 inmates were involved in gang violence at the Avenal State Prison in California. The fighting was so severe that 11 inmates are still hospitalized a day later. The violence has been attributed to a rivalry between two Latino gangs.

In Harlem, Preaching Keeps People off the Streets

In Harlem, Reverend Vernon Williams plays a significant role in reducing street violence.  Once a crack user and a heroine dealer who spent six years in prison, Mr. Williams came of age on the streets of Harlem, a fact that garners him respect from young gang members. Today, he can be found on streets breaking up fights and preaching hope.
