Omar Broadway, an incarcerated gang member, successfully smuggled a video camera inside the Newark’s Northern State Prison. His goal was to document the abusive prison guards in hopes that his footage would obtain him an early release. His collaboration with filmmaker Douglas Triola earned them a screening at the Tribeca film festival and subsequently picked up by HBO. The film can be viewed on the the DVD “Exposing a Hidden Reality: Part 1.”
