From Guantanamo to Illinois
The Obama administration is considering buying the nearly empty Western Illinois prison – Thompson Correctional Center – to house inmates from Guantanamo prison in Cuba. This is part of a larger effort on the part of the Obama administration to close down Guantanamo Bay Prison. Many GOP congressman object to this proposal because they believe this will increase the risk of a terrorism attack on American soil.

This is a wonderful interview with academic, writer, activist, former inmate and black panther Angela Davis. Davis is an outspoken prison abolitionist and in this interview she offers her views on the impact of prisons in the U.S., race relations, the civil rights movement of the present day, and the influence of Obama on a supposed “post-race” society.
