Economy Affects Indiana Prison Violence

Indiana prisons have seen an upsurge in violence, and assaults on both inmates and staff are on the rise. Many say cuts in funding are to blame, and overcrowding has spurred inmate anger.

Chicago Sets Out a Plan for At-Risk Students

Chicago public schools are taking a serious look at reducing violence among high school students. The plan is being funded by federal stimulus money and will promote targeted support programs for the city’s students at highest risk to fall victim to violent crime.

Gang Violence in California Prison Leaves Some Injured

A total of 193 inmates were involved in gang violence at the Avenal State Prison in California. The fighting was so severe that 11 inmates are still hospitalized a day later. The violence has been attributed to a rivalry between two Latino gangs.
